Private actors have become acknowledged partners in development in multiple ways. They are increasingly shaping the agenda of global politics as in global health. At the same time the private sector is also challenged to take over corporate social responsibility for implementing social and environmental standards. Research Cluster 3 focuses on the variety of private actors in the field of development. Research projects deal for example with

• human rights and corporate responsibility (Human Rights, Corporate Responsibility and Sustainable Development)
• private foundations (PFAD – Private Actors as Agents of Development)
• social market economy (Social Market Economy: Potential for Poverty Reduction and Human Rights in Vietnam)
• or high-tech industry (Creating an Indigenous High-Tech Industry: Biopharmaceuticals and China)
